I was excited to hear the news last week that my former UFL colleague Bill Peterson was named Commissioner of the NASL.

Bill was the architect of much of what the UFL did right in year two. We worked together, along with several other talented colleagues, to launch some of the following:
- UFL season ticket holders receiving on field access
- Fan clubs and included perks
- Fan access to practices and training camps
- Widespread Twitter usage

He was constantly pushing us to do more, to be more aggressive, and to take chances.

“The roots of the NASL triggered a soccer explosion in North American in the 1970s and I am delighted to be leading this new chapter as we take the league and its teams forward into an exciting future.” - BP

I believe he was absolutely the right choice to lead the League and cement their role on the soccer landscape.

If he is the right choice, then you can chalk up another UFL blunder.

I thought that he should have been named Commissioner after 2010 or 2011 — even though I thought the world of Michael.

Bill has a vast array of experience in many sports - football, cycling, soccer, etc. - and in various mediums, as Nation said. That gives him a lot of knowledge and flexibility when it comes to ways to grow a league.

I, too, was very pleased with the news. Bill will be a very good fit for the NASL, and I look forward to see how it grows with him.

There seems to be a real embrace of NASL soccer here in San Antonio, the San Antonio Scorpions opening home game will be broadcast on local TV. It's also the debut of the new stadium Toyota Field. should be a sellout.

Why do you believe that to be the case Andy? Is it anything in particular? Is it because of "Soccer for a Cause"?

Soccer for a Cause has something to do with it. But the overall organization has been a lot better than say the SA Talons, arena team. Marketing has been a lot better. The Scorpions began a season ticket campaign back in December with TV commercials. The Talons have limited themselves to radio & printed media and also got a late start even though they opened the season a month ago.Another factor has been independent fan organizations that have been pushing for pro soccer for years. The have adopted the Scorpions and promoted them as well. This has been in the atmosphere of what I have talked about in the past. An overflow of pro sports in the Spring.

Andy, what are the dominant youth leagues in the area?

Youth soccer is dominant, followed by football & little league baseball. Youth soccer dominates in in the predominatley Anglo north side. Football more, among native born hispanics and Afro-Americans.
