Comments have become a default feature of many sites and apps. But what purpose have they served or value have they provided?
The answer really depends on the community/site using comments. I see larger sites like ESPN or CNN become a haven of trolling/bullying partially because there are loose moderation and the volume of comments being generated. Sites like Reddit harbor this behavior to a lesser extent because of the community of users and their up/down vote functionality allows some sort of curation/control over bad behavior. Doesn't mean there aren't some twisted subreddits out there.
