Setting up a good backup strategy for your personal data has become an absolute necessity for everyone. Today, there are numerous apps and web-services out there in the market that make backing up your data a child's play. And with storage moving to the "cloud", it has become quite cheaper too.

All my critically important data, including the data that I keep requiring access to on a daily basis, stays in my Dropbox folder. I have a $10/m Pro account giving me ~120GB of Space and at the same time, lets me access my data from virtually anywhere.

My iMac is backed up using SuperDuper! onto a FW800 Drive as well as a NAS. I use SuperDuper! instead of Time Machine because it does bootable backups.

And then there's Backblaze for the "Cloud".

My "strategy", such as it is, is practically identical to yours. I keep all my important documents in Dropbox ($10/month pro account, same as you) and back up everything else to an external drive and cloud service. The only major differences are that I use a Drobo with Time Machine, as I don't think I can make a SuperDuper! clone on a Drobo without creating a separate partition, and I use CrashPlan instead of Backblaze.

The only thing I would add is to test your backups semi-regularly to make sure that things are being backed up properly and are restorable. For the record, I have yet to follow this advice myself.

My current setup consists of my Macbook and two external Hard Drives. On the first one (500GB) I keep all my iTunes, iPhoto and Lightroom libraries. I then proceed to back it up with Time Machine, along with my Macbook, on the second external drive (1TB), that I also use to store movies.

On my Macbook I keep mostly documents (aside from applications), that are saved in the Dropbox folder (free plan, as I still have space to spare).

The problem with this setup is that.. I constantly keep forgetting to plug the hard drives and back them up.

I've been thinking about signing up for CrashPlan, but the connection speed here in Italy is quite slow, and that scares me a bit.

My setup is surprisingly simple. Since I have a Time Capsule, I back up to that. I also have an external HD hooked up to the TC that I automatically back up to once a day. Any super-important documents are stored in Dropbox. That's really about it. When I got my new MacBook Air, I started fresh. No restoring. What I realized is that the tens of backups I had stored meant absolutely nothing. So for me, I tried to simplify my process. So now I have one Time Machine backup, and one clone. That's it. At least for now.

I still don't see why I should backup via Time Machine. Isn't it an unnecessary hassle when you have to first set up your Mac and then restore your Time Machine backup, which by the way is extremely slow from what I've heard?

A SuperDuper! backup also lets me boot into a different Mac (usually review units) without having to move my data onto those.

I basically have both. Since I have a TC, I just do a TM backup for the hell of it. Plus, I've restored before and it doesn't take *that* long. But my clone is what the real backup is for me.

So here's what I do:
- I have GameSave Manager run a daily scheduled task to 01:00 to copy all my saved games data to Dropbox folder, which I've moved to my external hard disk.
- I have SyncToy monitor AppData folder, where Windows programs store their app-specific data. SyncToy works much like rsync, so only changed documents are transferred to my Dropbox.
- SyncToy doesn't have a built-in scheduling feature. I use Windows' built-in Task Scheduler to run SyncToy daily at 02:00.
- I have Titanium Backup backup my Android data daily at 02:00
- SyncToy then fetches the Android backup and moves it to Dropbox at 03:00.
- Backup data from Dropbox moved to SkyDrive for redundancy. All these are fully automated
