The software you need depends of what you want to edit, the OS you're running and the type of video files you want to edit.

I'm on Windows 7. I really want to create video with animated effects... moving infographics and the like.

I don't think you can run FCP on Windows and Motion for Mac is quite complicated - Prem and After Effects will be best bet. Try some video tutorials first maybe, it takes a while to get the hang of it.

i hate video tutorials, that's why i pay for courses... I'm going to go for Premiere. Need to get a crack by the weekend though really because i need to book the course quick.

There are some intro videos here worth a look - tv.adobe.com I think I might give premier a go.
