I'm fairly shocked about Nicole Kidman's nomination for Best Supporting Actress for "The Paperboy"--a very good and edgy performance in a VERY bad movie. She's been nominated, now, here and at the SAG Awards, and could make a run at Oscar, which I never expected.

I'm upset that there is nowhere to put Bobby Cannavale, who was brilliantly malevolent in Boardwalk Empire this season. They should've given him Jeff Daniels' slot. Two noms for The Newsroom? Geez.

But Francesca Eastwood as Miss Golden Globe? No surprises there.

Also in the "snub" file, though I haven't yet seen it, is Tom Hooper for directing "Les Miserables," which fairly recently had looked to be marching towards a sweep. "Les Mis" didn't do that well with its supporting cast either, with would-be heartthrob Eddie Redmayne crowded out by two "Django Unchained" stars. This might bode ill for "Les Mis" and its Oscar chances--and bode really well for Tarantino's risky race drama.

"Skyfall" or "Suddenly" for best song?

Hahaha, Miss Golden Globe is the world's best tradition. Freddie Prinze Jr.! Laura Dern! That one Willis daughter whom Demi Moore publicly chastised for slouching onstage!

"Skyfall," though I'm sad Katy Perry's theme song from the movie about her life wasn't nominated. (It's eligible for an Oscar!)

It's a shame "I Dreamed a Dream" isn't eligible. Will Lauergate sympathy carry Hathaway to a win?

And evidently "Smash" is supposed to be funny?

Haha, yeah, I think Hathaway "hath a way" to win this, very easily. And I guess "Smash" falls under the little-seen "Musical" side of the "Musical or Comedy" category.

Looking forward to a day when multi-camera sitcoms get no Best Comedy nominations. Almost there. (Damn you, "Big Bang Theory".)
