Not sure if you guys knew this, but the first hackNY hackathon was actually funded on Kickstarter. (kickstarter.com)

The project was started with the help of Trevor (Tech@NYU, now at Lean Startup Machine) and Akiva Bamberger (ADI@CU, now at Google).

Ian "King" Jennings won the whole thing, as it was in those days. He built Klout for Foursquare, or something, before either of them was a thing.

Me and Max got some People's Choice props with Aviary Tennis, a homage to Photoshop Tennis (blog.aviary.com). And Akiva and Ryan from Codecademy made a Drop.io / Hype Machine mashup... if anyone remembers Drop.io. (hackny.org).

Eric Wu from YDN made an awesome video to commemorate the thing. (youtube.com)

It was a lot of fun. Crazy to think about how the tech community in NYC has evolved since then.

Yeah, really - and how much hackNY has grown. Kudos to all of you for that, as well :)

Here's a screenshot of what "Foursquare Candidates" was. It basically found the most influential person at a venue by comparing Facebook, Twitter, etc. Probably still a viable business.
