If schools build confidence then the rest will come - working toward gender equality in the culture will help a great deal. Boys to feel cool reading (now seriously lagging behind girls) and girls feeling free to be techie (or not obsess about wearing the right shoes to get the boy) will go far. Educators also need to adapt the curriculum to the realities of today's world - online education, media literacy, and integrating uses of technological tools across all subject not just learing how to write code - this brings education and confidence into the classroom.
