I'm looking for urban fantasy writing, but something like Dark is Rising (Susan Cooper) meets Jim Butcher's stuff meets Mage: The Ascension kind of stuff. Gritty. Like Shadowrun without trolls, dwarves and elves. Like the Dr. Strange animated movie-ish.

You might like the Dark Tower series from Stephen King. It's pretty different from some of his other stuff. It's more western urban vs. modern-day urban. He's even done some graphic novel stuff along with it.

For me, Scott Lynch's The Lies of Locke Lamora, and its sequel Red Seas under Red Skies, are phenomenal. They're a bit more renaissance era in terms of the fantasy setting, but undeniably urban in feel. Gritty, to be sure; a bit foul-mouthed, oh yes; but completely awesome. The third book in the series should be out some time next year, hopefully.

also nearly any Charles De Lint including (Memory and Dream is a good place to start)

Oh right! I've read all of those, except not *so much* De Lint. I *love* Mieville's Perdido, but I don't like his newest stuff. Embassytown was a total grinder. Not enough to latch onto.
