I can attest to this; even something as simple as playing from an iDevice is astoundingly complex. I'm not sure it can be distilled down to 0 effort, but in my admittedly sub-luxury car even the act of choosing an album to play takes much more attention and interaction than is acceptable.
What boggles my mind is that the interface in question doesn't take advantage of one simple fact: If I connect a player to my car that was playing song X from playlist Y, I probably want to continue listening to song X in playlist Y.
