In the last Presidential debate, Apple was brought up as a company that utilizes overseas workforces to have their products created and assembled cheaper than if they were assembled in the United States.

We pay a lot for our electronic gadgets, most of which are not assembled in the United States, would you be willing to pay a little more if you knew the product you were purchasing was created in the United States?

There are some companies, like right up the road from my small home town, in an even smaller town, John Deere tractors are assembled. That company, or at least that division of the company, made a commitment to it's employees, to America. Even though parts may be created all over the world, the are assembled in America. Providing good quality jobs, that allow a small community, and it's surrounding communities to thrive.

Sure, their lawn tractors are a little more expensive, but in this area, it's guaranteed that you know someone who actually had a hand in assembling that tractor. That feels good, man, real good.

Given the choice between two comparable products, one made in the USA and the other not, I will choose the USA product every time. We're competitive in our prices even though we pay well, offer benefits (usually) and pay taxes - definitely not something most companies/products can boast.

I would agree with that. However, would you actually be willing to pay more to make sure the product you want, is made my citizens of the country you live in?

I would love to find a way to take a product that is made in China, for example, and find out how much it would cost to make in the United Sates. What is the actual price difference? I understand labor cost being lower, but what about tax breaks, shipping, premiums for exporting, and etc, does it break even at that point? What is the comparison?

The issue (from what I've read) isn't the price. It's the lack of the right kind of skilled labor and also the fact that the turnaround on designs in China is a lot faster than it is here. (you can make radical design changes closer to mass fab easier)
