It seems like everyone and their mother is quoting @joshm's recent piece on medium.com. If you haven't seen it, might be worth checking out. Particularly interesting I think are his (and his sister's) viewpoints on email.
Is email going out the door? I don't know, but I am finding that many of my friends in college are forgoing email for all but school purposes and sticking with Facebook messages for personal correspondence.
very interesting article @joshm. It seems like the trend is towards- "a picture is worth a thousand words." But then again, high school students are less about ideas and conversation than adults. (we hope anyway!) As Josh said, that may change when they get older and they move more towards email.
I agree that Facebook is missing the mark on some of this. My take is that they don't focus on the anthropology of things enough and the social structure. They are the arbiters of the social graph, yet they didn't figure out that the use of the term "poke" evokes creepy old school failed social function and so they re-used the term. Duh.
I'm the founder of an online dating app, based on Facebook, and they don't get the dating thing either.
