It's increasingly clear that neither party understands the concerns of my generation. Sure, it's easy to pass off Generation Y as a group of self-absorbed narcissists, but that's because they don't speak to us on things we care about.

When will they address:
-Digital Due Process/online privacy: Online presence is very important to my generation. When we run for office, people will scour facebook for pictures and tweets and emails. Digital Life is increasingly important.

-Net Neutrality: Most of my generation don't watch "Traditional" news because we see it as scripted misdirection. Instead we go online for our news. How will these alternative viewpoints be protected without Net Neutrality?

Or what about:
-The Drug War: I'm not an advocate of drugs. I think they are horrible. But we've wasted trillions fighting it and getting increasingly violent gangs for the trouble. This needs to be addressed.
-The lack of real jobs. People of my generation don't want manufacturing jobs, or mill jobs. We were sold the promise of "Go to college, get a degree, get a good job." Instead, 25% of us are unemployed, at least another 25% are working where a degree is not required, and I can count on one hand the number of friends working in a job that requires their degree.

Generation Y is called the "apathetic" generation. I think this isn't accurate. We care, but we're apathetic from being ignored. It's time to speak louder.

Jason – I think your last concern, the lack of real jobs, is very pressing. Though I have a long list of other issues that mean more to me than Digital Due Process and The Drug War.

Poor public schools, lack of affordable education, etc.

I know that everyone has things that they consider more important. My issues with the Drug was is more the money spent and how it's directly tied to increased violence. Digital Due process is important to me because courts are ruling that hacking email isn't illegal, and governments can ask for your digital records without a court issue, but I do agree that education is a bigger issue.

What I'd really want is a debate where the candidates were tossed more than platform softballs. I'd love to know how they would both answer a question about how, as American's, we have one of the worst education programs in the developed world. But they won't get a question like that. Instead, we'll hear about big bird.
