A patent application filed by Microsoft back in April 2011, but made public just last week, shows signs that DRM (digital rights management) may only be getting worse - not better. The patent which is titled, "Content Distribution Regulation By Viewing User," is actually just as scary as it sounds.

I would be horrified if this became reality. Luckily I live in the Netherlands where downloading of movies and audio is legal, so it actually doesn't matter here.

I think that the system would be violating a lot of privacy laws, and I think that some of them (I know for sure in NL) can't be waived by terms and other agreement. So I guess I can't become reality here, soon.
