I developed a page that displayed all the trending info, links, images, etc. around hot currently trending topics.
You would enter a topic you were interested in and it would dig into the Twitter API, index the most talked about links about a topic, and display them to the user.
In one day of development, I was able to get better results than Google's for current events and topics.
For example, if Twitter just announced new photo capabilities, doing a search for "Twitter" in Google wouldn't really tell you what it is everyone is talking about them right now, but my results did.
It was just a weekend experiment I did 3 weeks ago, so there's nothing online anymore... I do have the code I wrote back then, but it was 2009. It no longer works, as it contacted a number of external APIs to bring the links (and create summaries with thumbnails for those links), influential Twitterers for the subject, trending photos, etc.
Are you asking for the recruitment?
I also created another interesting weekend project called steekups. Basically you would give it a list of Twitter usernames, and it would let you order a sticker book from Moo.com with all the avatars of all those users. The idea was that if you were organizing a tweetup, you could easily order stickers for every guest, and they would walk around with their Twitter avatar stuck to their chest... Instant connection to your twitter friends in real life.
This demo url still works, but the API to moo.com is broken, so you can't order the stickers.
