I'm doing an ethnographic study on the subculture of librarians for an English class and have moved into the virtual aspect of the subculture. How does the internet affect your culture and the way you approach your work?
Thanks for adding me Nicole! Isn't Branch awesome? Anywho, the internet has pretty much changed how I work. I use social media to add to the experience of the library...
For example:
I connect the digital signs in our library to our Facebook and Tumblr justinthelibrarian.com
I share everything that we do at our library online via my blog:

I've been able to host the cool things that teens have made in our library online and share their talent with the whole world:

And Twitter has allowed me to connect with more librarians from around the world than I would've had the opportunity to before Twitter!

Still playing a "fresh" role in library land; but I would have to attribute the success of my project (Evolve Project) directly to twitter; whether it was asking for donations, assistance, and so forth to make the project possible. More over, twitter was a huge networking boost; and I made a ton of connections and friends that helped me not only develop professionally but promote myself as an innovative librarian.
I'm horribly with blogging; but I see the importance of it. A lot of the well known library wizards / jedi's all maintain amazing fantastic blogs; full of awesome information and help. I know I need to blog more, it seems to be a "standard" in library-land. I spend a lot of my free time just reading tweets and blogs. #nerd
