I'm genuinely excited about the audio to midi function in Ableton Live 9, but is it cheating? For years I have produced music without the ability to 'play' an instrument in the traditional sense. I use charts to look up chords or I jam with a sound until it sounds right, often by accident.
So the ability to record myself humming a baseline or a melody and then turn that audio recording into a digital pattern that I can then control a synthesiser with is exciting to me.
But is that cheating?
