If Insurance was more affordable/attainable would that make it a better option for the preventative care that is now offered at no cost?

Are you referring to insurance costs in their current form or possible insurance costs in the future? I agree that in their current form Insurance costs are ridiculously expensive for individuals. In my case I am blessed to have have a job that provides Insurance as a benefit so I do my best to utilize all the resources provided.
Basic health care at a reasonable cost or no cost to you as an individual should be provided. The current system does not provide this and the "new" system might be better - or not.
Worst part is probably that Health-Care is allowed to operate as a for-profit venture in the first place. Healthcare should be a right - not a privilege for those with enough money.
Yes, the article is about those of us who don't have employer-provided insurance. Basic health care is fairly reasonable already for my family, as we need very little and just pay for it ourselves. But I agree, it would be best as a right, not a privilege ... as long as we focused on prevention as much as treatment.
