I recently bought the Google Nexus 7 and I loved it, it is really nice, light and cheap, a very good quality / price.
Now the iPad mini comes out and we all feel this urge every time an apple's product in launched, but is it worth it?

Would the iPad mini offer better quality / price than the Nexus 7? I'm starting to doubt it.

What do you guys think?

It was a bit of a reactive move from Apple, which is a little out of character. It doesn't really have any distinct advantage over the Nexus (brands aside), besides perhaps build quality (I'm sure everyone's heard about the little issues with the Nexus 7).

I'm a little surprised they used such a low resolution display, makes me think they were a little rushed on it.

I suppose it all boils down to the iOS v Android debacle, yes?

@greg yeah its pretty much ios v android. i love my galaxy nexus, and think android makes the superior phone experience, but android tablet apps just are not anywhere near the quality of ipad apps. there's simply no contest. google refused for too long to make a separation between apps for tablet and apps for phone. that combined with the dearth of any good android tablets for a long time basically puts them just quite a few steps ahead of microsoft in the tablet race, but apple is still lapping them both.

as for the screen resolution - yeah i am disappointed it's not retina, but i think it probably was the right move. better than ipad 2, requires no stretching or extra dev of current apps.

I also suffer the lower number of good apps in the Android market, but I think this is gonna change soon as the Nexus 7 and other google tablets are coming out.

I've been and iPhone user and now I'm an android user (Samsung Note) I'm not very happy with it, it's slower than the iPhone, freezes up very often and consumes which seems to be a big amount of memory. When I got the Nexus I feared all this and was surprised to find a very good product, it was beautiful, it worked fine, and smooth.

I agree the iPad uses better materials, and the interface is quite nice, but I can see Google is learning really fast and putting up a good competition.
They're both good tablets, but the difference in price is a big drawback for Apple.

I have an Nexus 7, and I ordered an iPad mini.
I have the Nexus for testing of an Android app, and played a bit with it. And I find the OS so annoying, not consistent and just ugly. I guess I'll like the iPad mini more, but we'll see that when it ships.

I am surprised that your Samsung note freezes often actually from what i heard its quite a beast of a machine.

Though for most people i think it comes down to branding since the device themselves seem to be almost on par with each other (IMHO). No one is ahead or lagging behind.

Andres: Yes - the price is a major sticking point. But i cant help acknowledge that it fits in well with their line-up

new 5gen touch at 300,
ipad mini at 330,
ipad 2 at 399,
and ipad 3/4 at 500

There is something at almost every price range and the price makes sense. If they were to price the Mini at 300 then it would be on the same 'hole' as the iPod touch? So the extra 30$ (i think) is used to differentiate the mini vs touch?

I think the best way to solve it is :to find a girl
then ,you use the Nexus 7 and your girlfriends use ipad mini
then ,the problem is solved!
