I gotta say Bloc Party, but I'm probably gonna get shot...! It depends what you define as an "Indie" band too!

At the minute, I am listening to The Black Angels a lot! Their album Passover (with the tracks Young Med Dead or Sniper At The Gates Of Heaven) is great.

I'm also into The Horrors!

I would have to agree with Alexx Foxx -- what one says in indie, another may not.

TV on the Radio have consistently put out great albums the last several years. The Constantines would be up there as well, though not as original sounding. Animal Collective seem to have a groove that makes it hard to tell one album from the next, but it's always something I enjoy.

Or you could go a bit old school and go for bands like Black Flag, Minor Threat, Husker Du, Fugazi etc.

Alexx, for me, I tend to follow record labels ...I'm more into jazz than any thing else, so I collected a lot of the early Blue Note stuff etc. ...I have friends who are into metal and buy a lot of stuff released by Road Runner Records. So, that might be an idea? If you have a record you really like, take a look at the label; you said you like The Horrors? Check out XL Recordings who have Sigur Rós, Beck, Jack White and The XX.

By the way, if you haven't already, check out The XX; their first album (xx) is fantastic. They are releasing their second later this yeat I thinl.

As for Hot Chip, I dunno, I was never able to get into them. I know a lot of people who love them ..so maybe it's just me.

We are Hunted is an interesting site. They crawl the blogosphere and create charts based on what is being discussed and shared. There is an Alternative/Indie chart that I think is pretty representative of current trends.

I'll check it out!

Music discovery services like Last.FM or We Are Hunted are great for finding new bands.

As for great indie bands at the moment - I'd say there's a handful of British guitar bands who are doing new and interesting things - guys like Foals, Everything Everything, Alt-J, Django Django, Wild Beasts, The Maccabees, even The xx. For straight-up indie rock, I'd say hand-on-heart that The National are a band who've never let me down.

The best indie rock band right now is Snowden.

I've been in love with Now, Now. Not indie in the normal sense, but they have a really unique sound.

They're touring with Motion City Soundtrack right now.

The Canadian music scene is filled with an incredible number of great indie acts: Half Moon Run, Tokyo Police Club, Stars, Feist, Hey Rosetta!, The Arkells, City and Colour, Caribou, Grimes, Tegan and Sara, Junior Boys and of course, (but not so "indie" anymore) Metric and Arcade Fire.
