I am planning on doing a one-day jeep tour. Would you rather the Southern coast or the inland drive?

Great choice! I went in Summer 2010. Felt like a trip to mars :)

I can't drive so I unfortunately had to do a tourist-bus kind of tour. All the "sights" (geysir, gulfoss, the blue lagoon) are pretty close to Reykjavik. I heard that the southern coast has more scenic drives.

I have done tons of research since I posted my question. There are several companies organizing tours as the one you took. I am happy to share names if anyone is interested. It seems that the general opinion is going along the Southern coast for a short trip.

Did you see the Northern Lights in the Summer? Weather permitted, I hope to experience that too, most probably taking a boat. I will post pictures.

Ooh, I'd love to hear about some of the research. We're heading over at thanksgiving for a few days and are considering whether we should drive around or stay in Reykjavik and explore.
