There's a saying: "Jack of all trades, master of none".

I fall into that category. It has made finding a good job nigh impossible. Currently, I am employed by a company of which I don't agree with their values. They may even find and read this, but it is a price I will pay for progress.

I have a wide multitude of skills, an outstanding work ethic and a positive personality, but I do not "excel" at any of the skills I have which makes finding a job which pays what I need it to pay very difficult.

I have considered creating my own company (in fact, it's practically done), however I cannot find a team that wants to help make something amazing with our lives.

I honestly & truly do not know what to do. Does anyone have any advice, perchance?

I can not really give you advice on how to find a job, but I can tell you how I got mine and who knows, there may be something you can draw upon to help you!

I may as well start where I decided what I wanted to do. When I was around 15/16 I decided that I wanted to do SOMETHING in the media. I didn't care what it was. I took it at college (UK) along with other subjects, which I mostly failed horribly at.

Media was the only thing I really cared about. I emailed every single media place local and all the major ones. I ended up getting one positive response from a major tv production company called Hattrick Productions. I went there for a week (Long travel) and then I was back to college. 2 years later I didn't want to go to...

... university. I wanted a job. The problem was, you need experience to get experience. I took the same tactic again, whilst also producing my own content on youtube and heading back to another college to do a new course.

I emailed everyone. Even if they were hours away, I still wanted a chance to work for them. Eventually this payed off. Luckily, a local company hired me as an apprentice, impressed with my CV showing that I had worked in a media environment previously (although for a short time) and that I was making my own stuff whilst searching for a job and also studying full time.

I think that to impress people now you need to have proof that you can do it. With pretty much anything you can make a portfolio. What do you want to do?

Your story is very interesting because it is a path that I am trying to go down myself at this time. I am a college graduate with a degree that I may or may not ever use and have been searching for a steady yet respectable place of work ever since.

This may sound like an excuse, but while my goal is to create content myself in general, I am having a hard time doing it due to the fact that it requires more time than I have available to me. My time is currently jeopardized by the job that I currently have. On the other side, I greatly want to work with others to create content, however I have not been able to find people who are as dedicated and interested in doing so as I am. This is my problem.

I will include a link here, but I believe in making dreams a reality, whether they be my own or others'. I believe that the way that we currently spend our free time, or in general time we spend on the Internet consuming content, is going down the incorrect path. One of my goals is to create content that I find respectable and that benefits the person consuming it, instead of being out to strictly make money. Obviously, that is a goal as well, but that is not priority one.

Dear Nick, although some of the brilliant young are the exception, older rule. No one is paid beyond their ability to be replaced! Knowing the way in highly critical or high profit task allows income to increase without limit. Brain surgeons make a lot of money because there are few of them and if you don't get one you die! Seems your education did not meet those criteria. Maybe it is back to school or diligent self-

The jack of all trades greatest asset is the ability to apply various technologies with institutional knowledge to solve business problems for thier company. Specialists know everything about a particular technology, but may lack an applied knowledge of how to make that technology relevant to a business.

It's applied knowledge and institutional knowledge that makes a jack of all trades valuable. These things are learned only through stability and experience. A technical specialist' skills are much more portable precisely because they do not require institutional knowledge to be effective.

so my advice is to either stay put and invest in your company, or prepare to take a step back financially to join another company and grow from within
