Phone, tablet, print, etc? How do you read your EBooks? Do you purchase EBooks (digital only), digital versions of print material, or free materials from top bloggers?

Do you share your reads?

I've recently become addicted to the free materials that are available throughout the web and even moved some of my most-loved books to my iPad (don't get me started on repurchasing books I already own). As a blogger who is looking to launch his first EBook, I'd love to know where everyone stands.

90% Kindle (apps), if you want me to read you need to (self) publish on Amazon.

Personally, I only recently got in to eBooks (I was kind of against them at first but, you know how technology can change peoples' minds).

I have a Kindle so I primarily get my books from the Kindle eBook store. As with most digital distribution, I hate having to manage multiple sites to be able to access what I own, especially if I can't remember where I own it. For example, I try to buy all of my games from Steam and all of my music and eBooks from Amazon.

It's just ease of use, really. Amazon keeps everything there for you in the cloud and you don't have to worry about it if you uninstall it or forget you have it, etc. It's nothing against people who just release free eBooks, but, in case I want to revisit it later, I want it there.

How are downloaded EBooks (outside of the Amazon store) managed? To compare this to the device I know so well: the iPad presents an option to save it to iBooks so it's saved and readable there.

Personally, when I come across a free EBook I just save it and load it to my iPad. When I'm purchasing an EBook I will download it from the cheapest resource and download it myself. Ideally I would like to have everything in the cloud with Apple, but not one source has the best deal so for now I'm tethered wirelessly to my mac.

Ah, that's actually a good question. From what I've seen, most eBooks that I've gotten elsewhere have been a manual addition (hook via USB to a computer and copy), but I was more concerned about if I were to delete it.

That being said, I actually don't have a lot of experience with free eBooks, as it was just this holiday season that I got my Kindle. So to be honest, I may actually be incorrect on how eBooks are stored, but I'm pretty sure (though not positive) that they are not stored in the Amazon Cloud.

I'm sure I'll be asked sometime along the line why I would have to delete any books and to be honest, it's just for a cleanliness factor. I'd rather not keep hundreds of books on my Kindle that I'm finished with.

I use a variety of sources and devices. I read novels and biographies on my Samsung Galaxy tab 7" and technical publications and ebooks on my macbook Pro or pc. My fiance uses the iPad for novels. I have kindle and nook and pdf readers on all my gadgets and have content in all types. Sometimes I'll continue reading a book on my iPhone if I'm stuck somewhere. My least favorite reader is iBook because I can't read the content on my Mac or Samsung. So I never buy a book from itunes.

I strongly prefer eInk devices to LCDs, probably because my workday is spent in front of an LCD, and my eyes get tired. I've read books on an iPad and iPhone, and the iPad definitely offers a great reading experience, if you can stand the extra eye strain.

I own a Sony Reader Pocket Edition, which I love. It's easy to carry, easy to annotate, etc. I hate the Sony Reader Store, and I really really hate the Sony Reader software, but until fairly recently you couldn't get library ebooks on a Kindle. I'm going to buy a Kindle Paperwhite. I've borrowed one and really like the whole experience.

Re: software, I'm told the best software for dealing with a non-Kindle ereader is Calibre (calibre-ebook.com), but I haven't used it, myself.

By the way, if you want to try to get ebooks from your library, check and see if it has something called "Overdrive," "Freading," or "OneClickDigital." Those are the big ones, but there are probably a few others. (You can always ask a local librarian, if you can't find something like that.)

I was an avid reader on my Kobo Touch, but until recently my iPad Mini has now replaced it. The reason for the switch was because of the type of material that I read. I do not primarily read books but a mixture of web articles, newspapers and magazines.

The iPad can handle all of those types whereas the Kobo Touch can only really do eBooks effectively. I know that you are able to download 'saved' articles or what have you to your eInk reader but the process is cumbersome and not really efficient.

The iPad has that pick-up and go factor that allows you to access almost anything at anytime without having to preemptively load your content on there. Magazine reading is a joy on the iPad, the ease of use is unmatched, in my opinion.

I guess I read a fair amount of content on both my computer and my iPad. I do find that my consumption varies based on the type of content that I'm reading. For full length books, I like iBooks - I find the interface to be more pleasing to the eye than the Kindle app (which I also own for books that are not on the iBookstore or are significantly cheaper on Amazon). I rarely read full-length PDFs, so for shorter PDF articles and stories I tend to gravitate toward my go-to reader - GoodReader. On my computer, I tend to read PDFs in Preview (it saves your place), ePubs in the Nook for Mac reader, and I finally downloaded the Kindle app for Amazon purchases.

It was one of the very first reasons to buy a Samsung Tablet, yet after trying couple of weeks of suffering me and my wife just gave up. A friend of mine has been using kindle, and he is very happy with it.
