Many of us have one or more photo capture devices: point-and-shoot cameras, DSLRs, camera phones, and some tablets take photos too.

In the domain of personal photography (not professional photography):

What is your work process in managing them? Do you do any organisation?

Where do you store the photos? Perhaps in one huge folder or using some stock application like Windows Live Photo Gallery, iPhoto, software from the camera manufacturer?

I'm curious if in today's digital age we are all still victims of the shoebox phenomena where we would store all our photos in one disorganised space and get flustered the next time we need a photo.

I use iPhoto because I can organize the photos into events. I used to use Picasa, but I transferred to a Mac and found iPhoto much easier

I used iPhoto as well in the past. But it got a little slow so I upgraded to Aperture.

All in all, I find myself just importing all my photos to Aperture and letting it do its own thing to manage my photos.

Maybe I should try that, I always wanted a reason to get Aperture.

I have my photos organised in folders by year and then in folders named '[Year] [Month] [Project name]'. This way I keep them organised and can access them in a similar way from all programs.

However I rarely navigate through the folders, but instead use Launchy launchy.net to open up a folder directly by typing the Project name. :)
