If you've seen the Hobbit in HFR, what are your thoughts? Does HFR as a medium have merit?

I'm copying some text I messaged earlier to Jason:
So I saw the Hobbit in IMAX - 3D - HFR last night. And I can honestly say I am still not a fan at all of the HFR look - it was just so weird to keep looking at this insanely large budget movie with amazing special affects that looked like a made for TV movie. I just never connected with it.
Peter Jackson said that he it gave it more of an immersive feel but I felt the opposite. I was pulled out of it. That said...I could see where it would be good for animated/3D and video game style movies that are trying to look surreal - it could work there but for anything that wants you to be drawn into the movie I just felt it lost it's magic.
