No matter how hard smart people try, journalists will only talk about Google+ as a competitor to Facebook. It's short-sighted in my opinion.

Google has shown time and time again that it's dedicated to making all of its products more social and tied together.

I think those comparisons are Google's own fault. I think it was a mistake to create a social stream in the mold of Facebook/Twitter. You're suggesting that Google+ isn't a social content destination, and I agree. It will never work that way.

Sadly, I expect Google to start utilizing Chrome more to leverage Google+. And if that happens, the backlash will be swift.

To me, all this time later, the only thing I find interesting about Google+ is Hangouts. That's it.

I agree with a few of your points. However, google has been consistent on messaging +. Even back to your first post MG. broader vision doesn't get recognized, especially with companies that have screwed the pooch like Google has in the past.

I don't fault I innovation though. The stories about "failure" are wrong and lazy.
