Is anyone doing something for Free Comic Book Day? I am thinking about teaming up with a local comic book store that is participating but would love some ideas on what to do.

We're doing... something. I'd need to talk to the services team as they're doing the planning and I'm simply handling the web end of things. And, of course, all of them are out today. I'll see what they say tomorrow.

Just a simple web content manager, eh? More and more, Daniel, I think you would be at home in a cyberpunk novel. Something with swords...

I did this one year at another library where I worked...it went over pretty well. Then again, the county where I lived did not have any kind of comic book store so it was something neat for the community.

I haven't tried it in my current community because we have two really great comic book stores and I don't want to pull people away from them! I do, however, advertise for them and encourage everyone to go there on that day instead of hanging out at the library.

Was the library able to secure comic books to give away? From the website it seems that the stores get a supply and outside organizations would have to work through them to get a supply of material to give out. If I were able to get me own comics I would do a comic blow-out that would make Kevin Smith blush.

@John: Yes, we were able to get free comics.

Thanks @Justin! It seems I must dig deeper then and get some for my branch. I was even considering putting my old collection from high school up on the block!

There was a lot of talk about hooking libraries up with free swag & comic books on one of my listservs... maybe gn4lib? Do you belong to that John?

Free Comic Book Day. I have two local comic book shops pledging 500 comics each after the holiday for my new "Comic Book Swap" station in our teen area.

and no @olinj I do not belong to gn4lib but I should.

@John: I love the comic swap idea. I may need to borrow that!
