Bonfire night was not called off, we just needed to find more mentally strong opposition and team-mates. "Ooooh, a firework, we might not be able to park, have to sit at home with a 4-pack and a microwave meal then instead".

Not everyone involved agreed to it being called off for no particular reason, ergo it was not called off.

Surely all consenting parties need to agree to a "call off".

It wasn't called off. When I called to book it, the pitch wasn't cancelled ergo the game was still on.

I distinctly remember bonfire night being called off.
