We've heard some feedback recently about our tweet and DM copy, and we agree that it's not as good as it could be. It would be really helpful to get your thoughts on it and suggestions about how we can make it better.

There are two kinds of default tweets/DMs that Branch creates for you: (Examples below)

1. Sharing - When you share a branch you're starting, a branch someone else has started, a post you've made in a branch, or a post someone else has made in a branch. (Examples 1 - 4)

2. Adding - When you add people to your branches, you can choose to send invites out via tweet or direct message. (Example 5)

RE: DMs in particular — Twitter requires that links in DMs be wrapped in t.co links. Not ideal, but also unavoidable. Right now, our DMs look like this:

I just added you to my branch about “Chris Malinchak - Accolade” t.co

What other context should we add besides the branch's name to make them feel more personal?

I am a fan of examples 1 and 2: Good language, simple and to the point, and inviting.

Examples 3 and 4 feel a bit wordy and jumbled. If I saw those tweets, I'd glaze over them quickly.

I don't know how I feel about the " Adding" tweets. I've always seem both the DMs and the @ replies as a bit stale. Perhaps I'm not a fan of the word "added". Maybe I've "suggested that ____ joins this @branch" ????

One problem that I ran into:

I started a branch that responded to a tweet and added some people not mentioned in the tweet (among others).

The text read: "[@usernames] Let’s take this conversation to @Branch. Join me: [link]."

One added-but-not-originally-mentioned person who does not follow me was confused by the language implying she'd been involved in some conversation, and perhaps a little offended, since she knows me only a little bit.

I think the best solution, albeit also the most complicated to implement, would be to use the "Let's take…" text for those mentioned in the branched tweet, but to use whatever the DM copy becomes for the others. (Perhaps, "I'd like to hear what you have to say about [topic] on @branch: [link]"?).

Sometimes the Branch DM's seem a bit spammy like BranchOut invites on Facebook. One idea would be:

I would love to hear your thoughts on "title" via @branch...

A personal invite/touch inviting them to a conversation rather than "I've added you..."

Of course, I'd love to be able to invite via Facebook as well. J
