When a patron is interested in reading a book that has potentially controversial topics (race, sex, LGBT seem to be the big ones), do you point this out to the patron?
No. Not unless it is obviously something that may be shocking. For example If my crowd of Amish romance picks up erotica I may mention that this particular genre takes a much different approach to the subject matter. But recently someone picked up "The Song of Achilles" and I let it ride. Or other example was "When She Woke" as a dystopian with one PG-13 surprise. So I don't point it out but it tends to be a point of discussion later.
