I confess I spent most of the ep wanting Hannah to have more agency. Get a job rather than demand money, make dinner rather than show up late for it. The only active decision she made was going over to Adam's. She didn't even quite quit.

Favorite character: Marnie. We've all had that boyfriend. I've seen the next 2 eps and hers is the character arc I like best. But Shoshana's energy is not only refreshing, it's essential. So much arch irony. Kids these days.

A lot of the acting—the mother, in particular—left something to be desired. Next to Tiny Furniture, this felt a little half-baked. But I will keep watching.

There were parts where it couldn't decide if it wanted to be farce, and I feel like that's where the mom found herself. I was sympathetic, though; I, too, would like a lake house.

Agree that Hannah seemed a little too passive about her own life - I also wanted her to take action more. And I loved Marnie! She felt almost more relatable than Hannah.
