On the matter of the topic, someone mentioned that the public (web) profiles feature was introduced shortly after FB's acquisition of Instagram, which means it probably isn't FB's decision, so it isn't their fault. That leaves us with whether it was the right decision to un-hipster Instagram with mainstream-style web profiles. On that I believe it's probably the wrong decision. Fortunately it's not an all-embracing change. Instagram does not promote ur profile on its homepage that others can click on.

I don´t think this new feature will kill Instagram. In fact I am sure that a high % of users, that basically just use in on their mobile devices didnt noticed and dont use it.
But I am sure that what can kill Instagram is Facebook itself taking over it or trying to integrate.
Wait and see ;)
