It seems like the Independent Party, or any party really, has an opportunity to take advantage of the vacuum the Republicans are creating

I'm not familiar with the Independent Party. Where would you place it on the ideological spectrum?
As for the video you linked to, I think David Frum has it exactly right. The GOP had nothing of substance to say to those of us who aren't wealthy business owners with millions of dollars to help them campaign.
