Would it be possible to force OS X to double the size of every element and then use retina graphic? The elements would be the size of a scaled 27 inch with 1280 x 960px resolution but everything would be crisp?
Yes it's possible, just follow this: stackoverflow.com . I tested that before, it isn't workable for normal usage, but just what you need for testing. Good luck with it!
Just tested it and it is quit nice actually. Think I'm actually going to keep it this way. For a while.
