What if companies who provided shuttle services from San Francisco, East Bay and Marin to their headquarters in the Silicon Valley created their own transportation system as a cooperative.

It would be able to have a bigger footprint, broader routes and extended schedules than their currently individual shuttle services. It would also facilitate small startups, who would love to offer such perk to their prospectives employees, to join in on a membership basis.

Anyway, the places that have busses are all big tech companies (and genentech) and all of them are very much competing for the same space and employees.

There's just no way that Google and Facebook would want their employees sharing a shuttle with each other: Not only do they not want people peeking over shoulders at confidential stuff, they also don't want them comparing perks and benefits as they already compete for every software engineer.

I think you'd have a better chance if it was only smaller companies - like the YCombinator people or other smaller startups that like to work together.

I agree with your point. I still think people will meet in bars, events, on Caltrain and other places regardless. They will talk about non-confidential work stuff and perhaps compare perks.

Maybe will be too hard to get these big companies to do it. Maybe we need a startup to drive this. A company created from the ground up that will provide the best transportation service to and from the valley on a membership basis.

Giants such Google and Facebook could pay a bit more to get exclusive vehicles.

The shuttles are already largely outsource (at least they used to be) by Bauer's limo service. I'm sure if there was demand you could do some test runs.
