Excited doesn't come close to expressing the feeling I have at the beginning of college football season. I'm an Auburn guy, so I'm really looking forward to jumping in the car with my family and heading to Jordan-Hare Stadium. As a southerner, we take our college football seriously. I love our rivalry with The University of Alabama and Georgia. I love the tradition.

This year we have a new starting QB, and two new coordinators. I'm ready to see how the off-season training will convert into play against Clemson next Saturday. WAR EAGLE!

Does Auburn beat Clemson?

I'm not sure. You've got Corey Lemonier and D. Bates on defense with 9 experienced defensive players. Having said that, the D has its hands full with Clemson's super explosive offense.

We finally have our starting QB, and I think we are all happy that Frazier is the man. It is a bit up in the air as to how he will play this year...but he definitely has the talent. Cam Jr.? Probably not, but we can all dream.

I know this...Clemson wants (needs) to win this game. It would be huge for their season. What are your thoughts?

I do think AU will have their hands full with Clemson. I imagine the embarrassment Clemson experienced at the hands of WVU in Jan will be very fresh. My kid loves watching that game! He bought it with his own money on iTunes.

But it seems like the AU defense will be better this year. SEC defense always trumps high-flying offense.

The wife (also a Bama grad) just yelled in here, "Do we cheer for AU or Clemson this weekend." She already knew the answer, though-- we cheer for the SEC!

I'm so excited that this all starts tomorrow night that I'm giddy!

What are the big games you are looking forward to this weekend? Aside from the obvious answers, mine is probably to see how Boise does.

Of course the Bama - Michigan game. That's a huge start to a season, and other the AU - Clemson game, the one I'm really looking forward to.

I've been through too many years of "Boise" fever to jump on the train. I'm actually pretty excited to watch the Florida - Texas A&M game next Saturday.

I always look forward to watching Oregon. I am guilty of staying up late to watch them play.

I am looking forward to Auburn vs Clemson. I am also eager to see USC. I want to see if the Trojans are as good as advertised. I am excited for TCU joining the Big 12. They may have a chance to take it. Texas A&M & Missouri are in for a "Welcome to the SEC - now F*** You" season. Georgia is likely to take the East. Arkansas may surprise people.

Big 10 - Nebraska
Pac 12 - USC
ACC - Florida State
Big 12 - TCU (why not? But Oklahoma is likely)

Big East - Lol. Who cares.
SEC - Tough one. LSU, but dont sleep on Alabama or Arkansas.

HAHA. Yep, you wanted in. I'm excited about Texas A&M. It was a smart move on part of the SEC. I wasn't so crazy about Missouri.

Ahhh...I see that you have Oklahoma in there. That's where I'd put my money.

Missouri was for TV purposes... The St. Louis / Kansas City market. Expect VA tech to join if the SEC expands again (to cover the DC market).

It will be interesting to see what Mettenberger does since everyone in south Louisiana is convinced he is the second coming. LSU will probably put up good defensive numbers, but I wonder if their program is getting out of control-- so many suspensions and dismissals (Tyrann) in the last year.

Yes! The big question is USC and can they live up to the hype nationally or just in their own conference.

I will say that while the QB and RB for SC had a decent game and the Commodores look to be much improved this year, that game last night left me a little flat.

Do you guys watch the Wa State v. BYU game? It seemed at one point that the only yardage to be gained was on penalties!

I'd say both games were a bit boring. Is Vandy really that much better...or was ranking SC #9 PS a bit absurd?

I'm hoping SC is still going to do well, but I wonder how Latimore will be if he has to carry the load the whole season.

I belive that Vanderbilt has improved. Every team is rusty week 1. South Carolina is likely to get better. Do you remember Auburn vs Utah State laste year?

Yes, Joe! I am hoping that Michigan is actually better than they looked against us. The game was great and the Michigan fans were quality fans!

I'm looking forward to the Tx A&M v. FL game today! And we're taking our 7-yr-old to the Bama game today.

What are you guys looking for out of week two?!

::sigh:: for me, I don't think this will end well. What started with such promise seems a bit out of reach right now. I'm wishing we had a real coach, SOME kind of defense, and our QB wasn't already hurt. So frustrating. I'll be COMPLETELY shocked if we beat Bama. I just hope we can hold them under 50 and we can put up around 30. That will be a "win" in my book with this interim staff & defense.

Can Auburn hang on to beat ULM?

a lot of folks knock this ULM team, but they are actually pretty good. Lots of Srs and are picked to win a ton of games this year. They have a chance for another major upset. I don't think they can do it two weeks in a row. I say AUB can figure out a way to hang in there -- at least I hope so for the sake of the SEC. lol. It is a "rebuilding year" for most of the SEC. These other conferences better enjoy it while it last.

UL-M almost pulled off the upset versus Auburn.

The biggest shocker, to me, was the Stanford upset versus USC. I figured Kiffen's bunch would be intensely focused coming off of sanctions with a chance at the title.

My Heels almost pulled off a historic comeback against Louisville which gave me a lot of hope for the remainder of the year.

The SEC has felt its fair share of close calls and upsets this year (Arkansas, Kentucky to smaller FBS schools), but it still feels to me like Alabama and LSU are a notch above everyone.

USC was always light on depth, and their offensive and defensive line scrapes showed up in a big way against a physical Stanford team. Oregon is probably the best bet to end the SEC's streak of titles, but they've been dealing with their own injuries. FSU hasn't proven anything yet, and Oklahoma just doesn't inspire a lot of confidence with Landry Jones under center.

I'm hoping we get to see the Alabama defense take on the Oregon offense for the title, but beating USC (maybe twice) and Stanford won't be easy.

There are a decent number of teams scheduling difficult non-conference games! Maybe they didn't know it going in, but Western KY has got chops this year and UL-M of course has been a thorn in the side of the SEC. Had to pull for Auburn in that game since I pull for SEC v. Non-SEC teams. That's just the way we roll.

It is interesting to see USC sort of implode a little with Kiffen's comments. I'm a Bama fan who ran into so TN fans here in Dallas this weekend. Had a great convo and the guy said so many Bama (etc.) fans are being nice to TN since the Kiffen situation. Not excited about seeing him succeed.

Hunter, I'm really wanting to see LSU - Oregon or Bama - Oregon in the NC. Either would be great games, but I think Bama - Oregon would be better.

The USC game was a pleasure to watch (and I'm sure I'm not alone). Stanford is solid.

Oh, man. I am so proud of this Bama team. The guys seem to be reasonably humble, concerned about team over individual, and the offense and defense encourage and congratulate each other after big plays. It's great that Saban got rid of the rif-raf from the Shula era!

It's a little early for me still to say who I think will be in the NC. However, I am thinking maybe Bama/Oregon or Bama/FSU. However, I would kill to have another all-SEC NC game before the playoff system. It would eat the whole country up if that happened again!

How does everyone feel about Notre Dame joining the ACC-- EXCEPT FOR THE FOOTBALL TEAM?! Are you kidding me?!

Notre Dame agreed to play five/six ACC games a year. My bet is that once the NBC deal expires they will end up an ACC team in football as well. Perhaps I am overly optimistic.

So, we are 5 weeks in and the polls have shaken mightily. Who do you guys think has the most complete conference?

Is Oregon's schedule tough or easy?

Will Bama work out the kinks and play better than they did against Ole Miss?

What does LSU's performance against Towson say about the rest of their season?

Is the SEC really that strong? I am of half a mind that they benefit from being highly rated in the pre-season and then only playing one another because they claim that the SEC is too tough to play a strong out of conference schedule. Then they have an opponent with one shot in the title game, if they don't play another SEC team.

Just saying...

The proof is in the National Championship wins (minus last year). Also, Oregon, who is one of my favorite teams, played LSU the first game last year and failed. I am however looking forward to a playoff system.

To answer your question, yes, the SEC really is that strong. My Auburn Tigers however...blehhh.
