Does anyone have an examples of where this works or doesn't work?

I imagine this would be a branch off of a larger conversation, does the community manager have to be someone who would have been a community member anyway? Do they have to share the same interests or beliefs that brought the community together?

I think so. And so I think that it doesn't matter what your gender is, as long as you share that common interest of belief.

We've developed a model for our Masterclass that's loosely based on a marketing funnel where people start at the widest end and end up at the narrowest end. We call it a Community Scaffold, though, because it's more of a structure for people to pose on than a "container" to move through. It's organized as concentric circles.

The important part is the thing in the middle: that's a common goal or purpose for people to gather around and work towards together.

The outermost ring are observers, then attendees, then participants, then champions.

The goal is an inbound flow: more people moving inwards than outwards. But one of the properties is that if people "skip" rings, interactions take a turn for the worse.
