War comics, I can see the historical value but then you could be reading a history book, essay etc. and get better information (but probably minus the entertainment value).

You must have been reading my thoughts because just today on the way home I was thinking of Terrence Malick and The Thin Red Line and how it compares to Jarhead. And how I would want to watch one but not the other. War comics (like war films) would be bordering on that thin line for me. There must be something of a positive value in it. A positive look on (human) life itself, and to still be able to see the beauty even in war.

Just checked out the thread Jonesy. Trying to think of a clever way to say that I've got a fantasy football draft Monday 9/3 at 9pm which could pose a problem.

I'm cool with a war book. I'd rather not read DK Returns if we're doing another 80s Bat book so soon. No dis to Death in the family or DKR. I'd rather read a classic Superman (my vote vol 1 of All Star Superman by Morrison and Quietly or Whatever Happened to the man of tomorrow by Alan Moore. Supposed to be the last Superman story and it's revered as a classic.)

If you're looking for non caped books, I vote Maus or Miracleman. I think Neil Gaiman or Alan Moore did MM. As always, down for whatever. Let me know what the pick is.

I'm putting forth Blankets as a suggestion. It's quite large, but you guys should have the time. Also it was cool, before graphic novels gained popularity.

All Star Superman if it has to be a superhero book, but do both Volumes.

Pleasing art, long-form as in epic, but judging from the preview pages a quick read. Much better than a war comic book because easier to relate to.

I was thinking, was there ever a PaperKeg on something Golden Age, pre-Comics-Code? It could be interesting comparing for instance (Acro-)Batman now and then (this as example b/c Batman #1-25 are digital). The stories and storytelling through art style, panel grid, and what to show and what not....

Would do for a nice theme/topic for "palavering", or the Fireside, too: Back to the origins of comics. Think newspaper strips and how it has become so huge, with lots of monthly books and Graphic Novels.
