I went on a mini Twitter rant yesterday with the intention of calling out something that frequently happens in the development of new tools and technologies. Our story so far:
Okay Twitter, help me come up with a name for something. It's a general pattern but is most visible (to me at least) in programming.
Someone invents something new or some clever new way of doing something old, shows it around and a small number of people say "wow, great!"
These early adopters test and tweak, determine that, yes, there's something useful there and begin showing it around, giving talks, etc.
Naturally, these early adopters are excited by the Shiny New Thing and their talks, blog posts, books are effusive and a little zealous.
