I'm amazed it's come to this… A letter from Tim Cook about the iOS6 Maps debacle. In my eyes Apple have nothing to apologise for. The app is great, it's the data that appears to be the problem. (I say appears, as I have had no issues with the new maps, infact for me they're an improvement.) But as always with data - the more people use it the better it gets.

I wonder how many of the people that moaned about this used the new map app for navigational purposes, or just for messing around/comparing to google?

With all the fuss surrounding this 'issue', it does make me wonder how did people operate on this earth before 2007 - When the first iPhone came out with Google maps? Oh - you would buy a hideously expensive sat nav.

This app is free.

Some good points raised in defence but for me, yes an apology was needed the data is part of the app and saying the app is great but blaming the data is just a cop out.

The app is a pile of crap, Apple prides its self, as Tim Cook points out 'in striving to make world-class products that deliver the best experience possible to our customers'

It has clearly failed in delivering this 'experience' due to the lack of data and its accuracy, for me it should never been released on to iOS 6 for public use. Apple/iPhone users demand high quality and top notch services, Maps fails on it's service promise because of the lack of data.

People rely on the service for everyday use now because it's become the norm and the service Google provided was fantastic.

Saying how did people operate before 2007 is not a constructive comment. They obviously didn't because it wasn't on any phones so no one knew any better and thats the issue.

The average joe iPhone user is going to expect the same quality and service Google provided so why should Apple maps be any different?

Also why should Apple get away with not getting criticism for providing a poor service, what makes them so great they should be immune to bad feedback and press...

Some good points there Danny. I guess I overlooked how much people have come to rely on maps. I can imagine there are some serious conversations going on now with their data providers. That's the only thing with post Jobs Apple - I bet the supplier scaldings are not as severe!!!

In regards to Apple getting more criticism for their bad moves - I guess it's the apple fan from the 90's in me - I remember when I got funny looks for using a Mac. People had no idea what it was… I still think of Apple this way - almost like a new band that no one has heard of! . It freaks me out when I hear the BBC or the Guardian talk about them haha.

I think the company me and more so you grew up with is no more. I remember getting those same looks when I got my 1st mac in college.

Even though we all used desktop G4's, my class mates thought I was crazy for getting a Mac as my main laptop and this was 8 years ago!

Forget the iPod, yes it put Apple in to the mainstream but for me the last 5 years is when this shift has occurred. The introduction of the iPhone/iPad is the reason Apple is now a mainstream consumer electronics company and the fanboys need to recognise.

It's easy to be a fan boy and defend them but to accept criticism and push forward is what will hopefully drive Apple to be better post Jobs.
