Pretty solid list. The only other thing that comes to mind is hardware. Already plenty of industrial designers are using platforms like Kickstarter to launch consumer products, but as the industry grows, it will start to bring in more graphic designers to do brand, communications, and interface design. There are plenty of good examples from 2012 and more to come next year.
Finally, Good Design is Good Business fastcodesign.com also - this is big in my eyes ... also, 'Product Designer' became a thing.

Google nails iOS with Gmail, Maps, Chrome, Plus, and Search among others.
And yea re: Keenan, I wouldn't forget about the world of ID. Quantified-self gadgets are starting to become mainstream ready (but probably a good 2013 topic) with Fuelband and new Up/Fitbits.
related to "flat" and also the design+tech category, Windows 8 launches and is 'meh' + Windows Phone continues to flail.
